AWS partners with Datacom for speedier cloud migration with GenAI

At its Sydney Summit this week, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced what it described as a strategic partnership with Datacom.

The partnership between the two is pitched at helping ANZ businesses and government organisations accelerate cloud migration and modernisation using generative artificial intelligence tools.

They include Amazon Q Developer and AWS Transform.

Amazon Q Developer is a generative AI-powered assistant for software development that helps developers with coding, testing, debugging, and application modernisation tasks.

AWS Transform meanwhile is the first agentic AI service developed to accelerate enterprise modernisation of .NET, mainframe, and VMware workloads.

The collaboration seeks to address growing demand from organisations wanting to migrate from legacy technology systems or to modernise current cloud environments to leverage AI-driven capabilities whilst minimising business disruption.

"Generative AI is revolutionising how customers across ANZ modernise their business, and it also presents an opportunity for our strategic partners like Datacom to transform their managed service business," AWS director of partnerships for Asia Pacific and Japan Chris Casey said.

Datacom has leaned on AI to capitalise on the opportunities.

"For many organisations we talk to, the need to modernise legacy systems is a key priority to deliver greater resiliency, efficiency, and new digital experiences – but cost and risk are a real concern," Mike Walls, Datacom director of cloud, said.

Datacom said it leverages Amazon Q Developer for 1700 of its developers to support cloud migration and modernisation processes for customers.

"Through this AI-led approach, our AI agents can write up to 70 per cent of the code, leading to significant cost savings of between 30 per cent and 50 per cent for our customers - in some cases even more," Walls said.

Substantial time savings for project completions, through automated code generation and testing capabilities, can also be had.

Datacom also uses AWS Transform to automate complex tasks that traditionally require significant manual effort and expertise, including payroll and customer service improvements.

AI-powered tools on AWS help Datacom support customers by generating migration plans that include architecture patterns recommended by AWS best practices.

The tools automate analysis of existing applications and infrastructure whilst converting legacy code to cloud-native applications with minimal manual intervention.

This approach accelerates development of new cloud-native features and capabilities whilst reducing migration risks through AI-powered testing and validation.

Modernising cloud architecture enables organisations to meet performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency demands of generative AI workloads.
