We are excited to kick off our MSP Index program with the first version of our MSP Index directory.
This follows our MSP Index launch event in Sydney recently, which was sponsored by NinjaOne, Opollo, Apptio (an IBM Company), Eset, HaloPSA, Mimecast, Vertiv and World of Workflows.
Initially, the directory shows basic information about MSPs: contact details and a short elevator pitch.
Our ambition is to grow the program into:
- a comprehensive directory and source of data about the managed IT services provider (MSP) landscape in Australia.
- a source of data and analysis of the Australian MSP landscape, including MSP activities, opportunities and challenges
- a platform for MSPs to more closely associate their brand with us and to connect with technology buyers via iTnews.
Connecting sellers & buyers
An important aspect of this program will be connecting technology sellers and buyers.
We are positioned to do this as part of the nextmedia stable of B2B technology publications, which includes our sister publication iTnews – read by many thousands of technology decision makers.
The iTnews audience may have questions about selecting MSPs, what MSPs offer, how they can work with them, and about MSPs’ specialities and partnerships.
The MSP Index program will be a conduit connecting these buyers with MSPs.
Next steps for the program
To achieve that, the next steps in the program are
- In the first quarter of 2025 we will publish the directory on iTnews. We will ask MSPs some additional questions beforehand.
- As more MSPs list their businesses in the directory by filling in MSP Index surveys, it will help us build a picture of MSP activities, offerings, gaps and maturity. We will present our analysis of this, including at our Pipeline event in August
- Invitations to selected businesses in the MSP Index to be included in MSP Index-focussed articles – such as business profiles or Q&As
- Networking and speaking opportunities for MSP Index companies.
Initial snapshot
Currently, the index provides a snapshot of a small number of MSPs. For example, we asked initial respondents about their offerings and learned that:
- Three quarters claimed to provide consulting type services.
- About 70 percent said they provided data protection, but far less provided data governance or information management.
- Unified communications was offered by a bit more than half of initial respondents.
- Cloud services like migration were very common, but far fewer said they offered IaaS, PaaS or SaaS.
- A significant number of initial respondents said they offered business process automation
- About a third of initial respondents said they offered artificial intelligence-specific services or products (such as GenAI training or use case development).
To build and present a more useful picture of these and other aspects of the MSP landscape, we will ask MSPs more questions. Anything they are willing to tell us will help contribute to that picture.
As we continue shaping the MSP Index program, we invite MSPs, technology vendors, distributors and others in the industry to tell us what they’d like to see from it. You can tell us what you want to see from the MSP Index by emailing us here.
